Hi everybody, I am Sierra Norton! A few quick facts about me... I love music, being spontaneous, and long walks on the beach. At night. Just kidding about that, this is NOT a personal ad. Anyways, life is good. Enjoy!
You know what's awesome? Music. You know what's super awesome? Good music videos. You know what's flippin super freakin awesome?!?!? Music videos where they do crazyass things like light stuff on fire and flood rooms and smash guitars. That sounds pretty flippin super freakin awesome, right? Right.
Young the Giants' Cough Syrup, which is full of paint and glitter and neatness.
The Head and The Heart's Lost In My Mind, which is very sneaky. They trick you into mistaking them for a chill indie band that has music jams in the snow, when suddenly BAM! Lighting things on fire!
The Pharmacy's Dig Your Own Grave, which contains contents unsuitable for young viewers. Murder, fire, blood-- much like Stefon's hottest club, this has it all.
The original YOLO!! You Only Live Once by The Strokes has epic music, Julian Casablancas, and dirty water floods. DA GREATEST.
OK Go takes first place for music videos. They swept the Internet with their famous treadmill stunt to Here It Goes Again, and since then they've done epic stop-motion, carved toast, employed contortionists and gymnasts, and now they're back with fast cars and smashing guitars. Enjoy Needing/Getting.
(P.S. while exploring I found this website where you can get the songs for free! http://letsdothis.com)
This video is really weird, but it was also strangely interesting and compelled me to watch. Check it out and tell me what you think. Then, after watching that semi-love story, watch this video:
This one was directed by Drew Barrymore, and I found it to be very intriguing. It's a Romeo and Juliet style romance, that's sweet, yet painful, but still a good piece. I like this song too, and as a bonus, it teaches a good moral. Don't join gangs or fight on rooftops, kids!
Today was the date of the annular solar eclipse and just our luck, Reno was greeted by lots o' clouds. No worries though, because I definitely was able to see this cool natural phenomena at least a few times before it was over. For all you who aren't quite sure, a solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, casting a big huge shadow over everything. It happened at about six o'clock this evening and took place for roughly an hour, during which time the sky got darker and the lighting looked super cool.
pro-photograph
As you can see in this loverly picture from National Geographic, during the solar eclipse the sun turns into a fiery ring much like the one found in Mordor as the moon orbits over our favourite star.
my photograph
In my picture you can see a tiny crescent of the sun through these handy-dandy sun protection glasses. Yesterday my father and I took the bus downtown to the planetarium and waited in line for about half an hour with tons of other people in order to buy these little things. Safety first ya know. Anyways, that concludes this post, so remember, enjoy/protect nature my lovies and have an excellent day!
Ode to My Mom
My mother
Knows (hopefully)
That I love her.
After many years of me and my sis-
I still marvel
At how she can accomplish this.
She remains sane
Despite the explosion of brain
That children definitely bring.
Anyway,
I guess this "thing",
This rhyme scheme is done
So dearest madre, thanks for being so fun!
Love, Sierra
tadaa for terrible impromptu poetry! happy mother's day everyone!
Good? Okay, so when you watched that commercial, you probably thought "this isn't so bad... why is she hatin' on it?" and here's your answer. I dislike that commercial for several reasons. First, because it is pushing technology too far. Sure, this girl just avoided being played, but let's imagine a different scenario. A nice guy walks up, ready to meet someone new, only Miss iPhone has already Facebook stalked his soul and now thinks that she is "Know-er of All Things Tim". Her technological interpretation of this man ends up delivering a first impression that he is boring and kind of a nerd, when in reality he is one of the kindest, most caring people you could ever meet. Point being, this chick already makes a judgement of him before she actually gets to know him. What happened to real, social interaction? I mean, seriously, the only reason this girl is even at this speed dating table is probably because she fails miserably at finding guys to hit on at the bar, and doesn't want to meet some stranger through online dating. But wait- holdup. She didn't like online dating? Then why the hell does she meet this man through her PHONE???
The second reason I do not like this commercial links into the first, and yeahhhh maybe sounds a bit heartless. But okay, in all honesty, if this girl can't make the judgement of whether or not a guy is a player, then she needs to get out there and learn. Getting your heart broken sucks, but the only way you will ever survive the world of relationships is by jumping out there and experiencing things. You don't learn to swim by dipping your toes in the shallow part where all the two year olds splash around and throw things; you learn by taking a dive off the deep end. If this poor, crazy girl can't conquer her naïveté, she is going to spend her life in the superficial personality bind that is status updates and profiles. The problem problem is, when you fall in love with someone, you fall in love with the way their eyes sparkle when they laugh, how they treat little kids and little old ladies with respect and kindness, or how they will listen to you about anything and everything and somehow always make you feel better. This girl is not going to ever truly find love with a male of age 31 who likes golf and Rolex watches and has a profile picture of him sipping champagne. She's going to fall in love with "Andy" who is scared of spiders, loves playing frisbee with golden retrievers and has a shy side that only disappears when he is either making a sandwich or talking to someone he loves. Relationships are made by getting to know someone and making a real, personal connection, not just out of a friend request and desperation.
Now that I've ranted about my loathing for that commercial, enjoy this one:
I do not cry easily. Funerals, Bambi, sad books, you name it- no tears. Don't get me wrong, I feel pain and misery as much as the next person, but I just don't show it as clearly. However, this does in fact get me to tear up:
Ahhhhhhhhh it's so loving!
Anyway, moral of the story is: show those who care and provide for you that you love them. Without them, you wouldn't end up where you are today or even ten years from now. Good bye and love Sierra.
