1: The Bible Says That Homophobia is Evil
Yes, there are passages in the Bible that seem to regard homosexuality in a less than positive manner. But the Bible also regards tons of other little things as unholy or sinful, and no one seems to pay much attention to those topics! These include random, casual tasks such as wearing expensive clothes, cutting your hair, or wearing wool and linen together. I am fairly sure that there are some religious, Bible reading folks that have done one or more of these things, and I don't see anyone lined up protesting their way of life.
Unless you're classy... like Neil Patrick Harris. |
Flashback to freshman year, biology class. We were watching a crusty scientific video, a feature on porn. No joke. An entire classroom of freshmen students subjected to footage of primates getting it on like-- well... crazy monkeys. It was scary. But, it also was very educational!
For you see, scientific observations have found much naturally occurring homosexual behavior amongst primates (who, I might add, happen to be quite closely related to humans). If you don't quite trust me, read the National Geographic. Or hit up YouTube for some same-sex animal porn!

3: Same-Sex Marriage Will Ruin the Sanctity of Marriage
I'm pretty sure the best way to handle this fallacy is through the power of numbers...and then logic.
So here we go:
This man has upheld the sanctity of marriage ... by cheating on his 1st and 2nd wives? |
- In 2009 the state of Florida recorded 79,000 divorces of 141,000 marriages--more than 50% in all
- In 2004 a poster from the US census reported that "of men and women who married for the second or third time ... 91 percent were remarrying after being divorced"
The fact is, marriage has changed. It is not the same as it was hundreds of years ago, and it's not the same as it was in the 60s. People now have the power to marry who they are actually in love with, black and white couples can tie the knot, and divorce/adultery are not crimes punishable by stoning or damnation into Hell. So why the stigma against gay marriage? Gay couples have the potential to raise children just as well as heterosexual couples.

So please people, realize that this is a battle of civil and equal rights. Remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight? People don't walk around being blatantly racist anymore, and it's high time people start realizing that being homophobic is the exact same type of hurtful discrimination. We are all human, and while it's true we all have different beliefs, if it's not hurting you, why fight it? Everyone deserves the opportunity for happiness.
